UK Customs – Our Marketplace
The UK’s position on the global customs landscape should not be underestimated. We have the 5th largest import and 9th largest export economies in the world. And despite the uncertainties surrounding Brexit, UK imports of goods and services rose in 2016 to a record high value of over £582m. Additionally, the UK’s exports also reached record levels.
While Brexit presents obvious challenges for HMRC and international traders alike, an added complication running in parallel with our exit from Europe is the replacement of the current reporting system, CHIEF. The impact of this promises to be every bit as substantial as that of Brexit. HMRC have already confirmed that the new system, CDS, will be an IBM product and it will come on line in time for Brexit.
Fortunately, we are clearing goods through this same system as it’s already in place in the Netherlands. In fact, our Dutch clients have been processing declarations there since 2015, giving us valuable knowledge and experience in advance of the UK implementation.
Most companies in our industry have other interests and demands on their time outside of customs. However, this isn’t the case at Langdon Systems. Our independence allows us to determine our own priorities and we concentrate solely on customs related issues, such as Brexit and CDS, as and when they arise without being distracted by other non-customs matters. Customs compliance is imperative and, with our focus and expertise, you can relax in the knowledge that when you use our solutions you won’t fall foul of HMRC’s requirements.
Our client base includes businesses from a variety of different sectors, such as retail and hi-tech, and we are particularly successful within the 3PL sector.
